MOSCOW. May 28 (Interfax) - The Yemeni leadership favors the development of cooperation with Russia and counts on its assistance in returning peace and security to the country, Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council Chairman Rashad Muhammad al-Alimi said.
"We seek to develop cooperation, which has lasted for almost a century, and we're determined to work on preparing the celebration of a century of our relations in a few years," al-Alimi said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Recent years have seen a substantial breakthrough in relations between Russia and Yemen, he said.
"We would like Russia to continue cooperating with us the same way. We want Russia to help us return peace, stability, and security to Yemen, as well as return a normally functioning republican regime," he said.
"We are opposed to the Red Sea's militarization, and we are opposed to a deterioration in relations with our neighbors. We seek to develop cooperation in all areas," al-Alimi said.
