BAKU. May 29 (Interfax) - The European Union and Azerbaijan have agreed to regularly exchange views on foreign policy and security, the sides said in a joint press release following the sixth Security Dialogue meeting.
"The participants had a frank and constructive exchange on the state of the EU-Azerbaijan bilateral relations, as well as on topical foreign and security policy issues of mutual interest. They welcomed recent high-level engagements demonstrating the shared interest of parties to open a new chapter in bilateral relations," the press release said.
The EU and Azerbaijan agreed to continue regular exchanges on foreign and security policy issues including on the potential of deepening cooperation in energy and transport connectivity, it said.
"The EU underlined the vital role of regional cooperation. Azerbaijan reiterated that the EU was its biggest trade partner. The EU highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan's reliable gas supply for EU's energy security. The parties also underlined the importance of meaningful work on all relevant strands of bilateral cooperation under the EU-Azerbaijan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement. As host of COP29, Azerbaijan furthermore underlined its commitment and ambitions to increase renewable energy," it said.
Baku also expressed its appreciation for the EU's support for demining efforts, the press release said.
The meeting was co-chaired by Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs at the European External Action Service Olof Skoog and Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikmet Hajiyev.
