There can be no alternative to political, diplomatic solution to conflict between Iran, Israel - Russian deputy FM (Part 2)

MOSCOW. June 16 (Interfax) - The Iranian-Israeli conflict cannot be settled in any other way but using political, diplomatic methods, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said.

"We believe that there is no and there can be no alternative to a political and diplomatic way. Naturally, the situation speaks for itself today - it is extremely difficult, it causes deep concerns," Ryabkov told reporters on Monday.

"The calculations of the Israeli side that such strikes can eliminate the nuclear infrastructure and sources for other concerns, which the Israeli leaders, the Israeli military apparently have - these calculations are unfounded," Ryabkov said.

"Lessons of history need to be taken into account: such military actions, as a rule, have the opposite results. And the Iranian representatives have already made very clear statements on that. We are registering that," he said.

Russia "has registered that the round of mediated contacts [between the United States and Iran] scheduled to be held in Oman will not take place in the light of the events," he said.
