Damage from cybercrime up 20% to exceed 80 bln rubles in Russia in 2025 - Interior Ministry

ST. PETERSBURG. June 18 (Interfax) - The damage from the actions of IT criminals for the first five months of 2025 exceeded 80 billion rubles, which is a quarter higher year-on-year, Russian Interior Ministry's Investigative Department deputy head Danil Filippov said.

"These are disappointing damage figures. Despite the fact that the number of crimes has been declining for some time, the damage has been on the rise. It grew 20% in five months to reach 81 billion rubles. Last year, this figure was 23% less," Filippov said at a session of the T-Dvor festival at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Wednesday.

Over 308,000 IT crimes were registered over the first five months of the year, while more than 189,000 of them were remote theft and fraud, Filippov said.

Law enforcement officers arrested, namely, "blocked on the accounts" around 16 billion rubles, and "did not allow its further movement" during the investigation over the reporting period, Filippov said.

"By comparing the amounts indicated, maybe this is not so much. Nevertheless, we were able to help someone," Filippov said.
