MOSCOW. June 19 (Interfax) - Russia offered Iran to work together in the field of air defense, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"We once offered our Iranian friends to work in the field of air defense, yet the partners did not show much interest," Putin said at a meeting with the heads of international news agencies on Thursday.
He was asked whether the Russian-Iranian Strategic Partnership Treaty allowed for providing Iran with Russian air defense systems or weapons.
"As to the treaty you have mentioned, that on strategic partnership, it has no articles related to defense," Putin said.
"Iranian friends did not ask for that," he said.
Russia offered Iran to develop air defense systems together, Putin said.
"As to specific deliveries, yes, of course, we made such deliveries in the past but they are not related to the current crisis in any way," he said.
Iran did not ask Russia for anything that could breach international laws, Putin said.
"We have always been complying with international legislation," he said.
