Ship crewmember detained for passing info on Russian Black Sea Fleet ships' location to Ukraine - FSB

MOSCOW. June 26 (Interfax) - A woman has been detained and placed under arrest in Novorossiysk for passing information about the location of Russian Black Sea Fleet ships and air defense systems to Ukrainian security services, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said.

"Investigative procedures revealed that the suspect, a crewmember of a civilian ship operating in the ports of Novorossiysk and Sochi, initiated contact with a pro-Ukrainian terrorist organization accountable to Ukrainian security services. While fulfilling her assignment, she gathered and passed to the handler through the Telegram messenger information about the location of Russian Black Sea Fleet ships and air defense systems," the FSB public relations center said on Thursday.

"Timely measures prevented damage from being done to military hardware and personnel of the Russian Armed Forces," it said.

The investigative department of the FSB branch in the Krasnodar Territory opened a criminal case on treason counts. The woman has been placed under arrest.

The offense is punishable with up to 20 years in jail.
