MOSCOW. July 8 (Interfax) - The Kremlin will closely follow developments surrounding the European Union's declared intention to impose "the toughest" sanctions on Russia, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"Certainly, we will closely follow the developments on this track," Peskov told journalists on Tuesday when asked whether the European Union's warning of "the toughest sanctions" worried the Kremlin.
There have been statements that a new package of such sanctions had been drafted, he said.
"Our position is well known. Certainly, we'll be doing our utmost, everything that we've learned to do over these years, to minimize consequences of those unlawful restrictions as much as possible. We've learned a lot, we have quite an experience in this field, and we'll employ it as much as we can," he said.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said earlier that the EU was preparing to hit Russia with the toughest sanctions since 2022.
The new package of EU measures proposed by Paris is intended to deplete Russia's resources, prevent it from continuing its military operation, and prompt it to agree to a ceasefire, Barrot said. The measures would affect Russia's oil revenues and financial players from Russia and other countries, he said.
