EX-DEPUTY NAVY COMMANDER VISITS BALTIC FLEET

KALININGRAD, September 21 (AVN) -- Admiral Igor Kasatonov, former deputy commander of the Russian Navy recently transfered to the reserve by President Boris Yeltsin, arrived in Kaliningrad on Tuesday to pay a farewell visit to the Baltic fleet.

Kasatonov is considered by many sailors one of the most influential military chiefs in Russia. Being commander of the Black Sea fleet, he was a firm and consistent defender of Russia's interests in this area and worked hard to preserve Sevastopol as the main base of the Russian Black Sea fleet.

Under Kasatonov's auspices, the Baltic fleet held testings of the Petr Veliky nuclear cruiser, the aircraft carriers expedition to the Mediterranean Sea and many other important military events.

During hiscurrent visit, Kasatonov will meet top officers of the Baltic fleet, visit the Balitysk naval base where his son is serving, the Baltiysk Naval Institute and several warships.
