MOSCOW, September 21 (AVN) -- Bodies of the Russian Defence Ministry on Tuesday began implementation of the statute "Concerning theOrder of Military Service," approved by President Boris Yeltsin's Order 1237 as of September 16, 1997.
The statute envisages strict rules of commissioning the rank of general. It will be commissioned to officers who hav served in a general's position for at least a year and who have been commissioned their latest rank at least two years ago.
The statute also reduces the term for commissioning the rank of coronel. An officer now has to serve four years instead of five as lieutenant-colonel to be commissioned colonel.
