RUSSIA TO CONTINUE SUPPLIES OF SU-30MKI FIGHTERS TO INDIA

IRKUTSK, September 22 (AVN) -- The Russian Bank of Foreign Economic Activity has granted a 15-millon dollar credit to the Irkut aicraft plant based in the central Siberian city of Irkutsk, the plant's general director, Alexei Fyodorov, said on Wednesday.

The money is necessary to complete construction of six Su-30MKI multi-purpose fighters which are to be supplied to India, Fyodorov told the Military News Agency. Two contracts between Russia and India envisage supplies of 50 Su-30 planes of various versions, each costing about 35 million U.S. dollars.

The Su-30MKI two-seater multi-purpose fighter is capable of hitting tragets in the air, on the ground and on water in any weatehr conditions and any time of the day. It was designed specially for the Indian Air Force and the plant took into consideration all requests of the buyer. The fighter is equipped with an up-to-date radar system and engines with a variable thrust vector. It can carry almost all missiles and bombs currently produced by Russia.
