DEFENCE MINISTRY PAYS SOLDIERS FOR DAGESTAN CAMPAIGN

MOSCOW, September 24 (AVN) -- The Russian Defence Ministry has received complete financing for payment of salaries to servicemen who took part in the federal anti-guerilla campaign in Dagestan, Colonel-General Georgy Oleinik, head of the Defence Ministry Department for Military Budget and Financing, said on Friday.

Servicemen who were involved in the campaign have already received salaries for August or will do so in the next few days, Oleinik told the Military News Agency.

The Finance Ministry promised to provide additional 2.5 billion roubles (100 million U.S. dollars) for payment of salaries to soldiers, Oleinik said. The Defence Ministry is to receive a total of 8.3 billion roubles (about 332 million dollars) in September, he added.
