MOSCOW, September 24 (AVN) -- President Boris Yeltsin on Friday appointed Lieutenant-General Alexander Baranov deputy commander and chief-of-staff of the North Caucasian military district.
Baranov was born in Uzbekistan in 1946. He graducted from the Tashkent Combined Arms Command College, the Frunze Academy and the General Staff Academy. He previously served as first deputy commander and chief-of-staff of the Privolzhsky military district.
