ST. PETERSBURG, September 24 (AVN) -- The local Baltic ship-manufacturing plant on Friday laid keel for a new frigate whcih will be supplied to the Indian Navy, a spokesman for Rosvooruzhenie, one of Russia's major arms-trading companies, told the Military News Agency.
It is the second out of three ships Rosvooruzhenie undertook to produce under a contract with the Indian Defence Ministry, the spokesman said. It was designed by the state-owned Norrthern Project and Design Bureau.
The frigate's displacement is about 400 tons. The most up-to-date iseas and technologies are used in its design, and the newest weapon systems will be provided for its armament, the spokesman said.
The construction of the first vessel for India is progressing three months ahead of scedule, he added.
