FEDERALS USE ADJUSTABLE AIR BOMBS FOR HIGH-PRECISION ANTI-GUERILLA STRIKES

MOSCOW, September 27 (AVN) -- Federal avation in Chechnya is widely using KAB-500 adjustable air bombs to inflict high-precision strikes against guerillas, Boris Mertsalov, chief designer of the Region arms manufacturing company, said on Monday.

A KAB-200 air bomb is equipped with a laser- and television-correlated self-guided warheard which weighs 380 kilogrames and ensures guidance accuracy of up to four metres, Mertsalov told the Military News Agency.

According to him, KAB-200 bombs are intended for elimination of enemy fire-points, control centres, concrete fortifications, landing strips and manpower. In Chechnya, they are used by Su-24M front-line bombers and Su-24TM attack planes, Mertsalov said.
