MOSCOW, September 28 (AVN) -- Russian and foreign means of mass media are using more and more information from Chechen sources in their reports concerning the North Caucasian war, a top official of a Defence Ministry analytical service said on Tuesday.
There is no access to other sources, the official told the Military News Agency. According to him, the General Staff and its chief, Army General Anatoly Kvashnin, drastically limit the amount of information on the North Caucasian war which is available to means of mass media. Due to this policy, Russia may face a new defeat in the information war against Chechnya, he said.
If media reports continue to be based mostly on Chechen sources, this defeat is inevitable, the official wnt on. Even if federal forces succeed on the battlefield, Chechen information war experts will do their best so that most Russans remember the operation not as an anti-guerilla campaign, but as suppression of "the Chechen people fighting for independence," he added.
