SMOLENSK, September 28 (AVN) -- The garrison count in the central Russian city of Smolensk on Tuesday tried two officers of the local Air Defence University and found them guilty in bribe-taking and abuse of power.
The court, presided by Lieutenant-Colonel Valery Volchok, sentenced Colonel Yelisei Chernov, deputy head of the university, to five years in prison and Lieutenant-Colonel Alexander Nikanorov, head of its apartment exploitation department, to eight years. Nikanorov is relieved of the rank of officer, and his property is seized.
The investigation managed to prove that the two men created a so-called reserve fund of flats, which they granted to the university personnel for bribes, thus receiving ovre 12,000 U.S. dollars. Before the trial they already repaid 129,808 roubles of damage caused to the state.
