DEFENCE MINISTRY TO PROVIDE BENEFITS TO PARTICIPANTS OF DAGESTAN CAMPAIGN

MOSCOW, September 29 (AVN) -- The Russian Defence Ministry has begun provision of benefits to servicemen who took part in the anti-guerilla operation in Dagestan, Colonel-General Georgy Oleinik, head of the Defence Ministry Department for Military Budget and Finance, said on Wednesday.

According to him, the government increased monetary allowance to officers, non-commissioned oficers and soldiers and introduced a series of social guaranteees for family members and relatives of deceased and missing servicemen.

These benefits include provision of new flats on a top-priority basis to those who suffer from inadequate housing, all-expenses-paid trips to health camps for children and free stay in sanatoriums and resorts for adults, Oleinik told the Military News Agency.

He went on to say that that if a soldier is killed or wounded in Dagestan, his familiy members are entitled to a free trip to his grave or a place of treatment. They will also be paid back all travelling expenses if they have to go to another town or city to identify his body, Oleinik added.
