UPGRADED SU-24M BOMBER UNDERGOES TESTS IN RUSSIA'S LIPETSK

LIPETSK, September 29 (AVN) -- The Lipetsk pilots training and retraining centre and the Gefest & T closed joint stock company are holding flight tests of the upgraded Su-24M front-line bomber, the company's general director, Dmitry Lomako, said on Wednesday.

The upgraded bomber is equipped with an enforced airborne computer which will enable it to increase accuracy of bomb hits up to 15 to 20 metres, making regular bombs almost as effective as KAB-500 correctable air bombs, which are about 70 percent more expensive, Lomako told the Military News Agency.

The bomber also uses a television radar-sight head instead of an aiming one, providing pilots with a possibility to take the firing range by 15 to 20 percent more effectively and make the resolution of airborne devices six to eight times higher, he said.

According to Lomako, it takes not more than three days to upgrade an aircraft.
