MOSCOW, October 12 (AVN) -- Federal aviation has inflicted 10 missile and bomb strikes on fortified guerilla positions at the right bank of the Terek river since Monday, a spokesman for the Air Force Staff told the Military News Agency.
By Tuesday morning, federal aircraft accomplished 20 missions, including several target reconnaissance tasks, the spokesman added.
The situation in the combat area in the North Caucasus remains stable, the press service of the Eastern federal group said. Federals are in control of the situation in the entire zone of the group's responsibility. All dominant heights, main roads and communications are retaken by army units and the Interior Ministry's troops, the press service said..
Despite suffering heavy casualties, guerillas are regrouping and preparing for a defensive operation against federal forces, an official of the press service said. They are still threatening to stage terrorist acts in the Russian territory, he added.
On Monday, guerillas shot down 32 residents of the Ramenskoye village in Chechnya's Naursky district who had told guerillas to leave the village.
Federals continue blocking prominent Chechen warlord Shamil Basayev and his closest allies in the Goragorsky village, the Western group commander, Major-General Vladimir Shamanov, told reporters.
