MOZDOK, October 19 (AVN) -- The Unified federal group in the North Caucasus on Tuesday took control of the strategic road between the towns of Itum-Kale and Shatini, as well as canyons and passes which connect Chechnya with Georgia, a source in the Unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.
Severl federal units were taken by helicopters to the Chechnya-Georgia border to block routes of transportation of mercenaries, arms and ammunition to Chechnya, which could also have been used for guerilla withdrawal to adjacent countries, the source said.
