MAKHACHKALA, October 25 (AVN) - Residents of Chechnya's Gudermes district are not planning to put up resistance to federal forces, a spokesman for the Eastern federal headquarters said on Monday, citing intelligence data.
According to him, fortifications set up around villages are defended only by small self-defence detachments. Main guerrilla forces retreated to mountains, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.
As it was earlier reported, many residents of the Gudermes district support Chechen mufti Akhmad Haji Kadyrov who calls on the republic's residents to cease resistance to federal forces and settle the conflict by political means.
