MOSCOW, November 1 (AVN) -- Federal aviation in the North Caucasus may rum out of ammunition in the next few weeks, the Military News Agency learned on Monday.
This information was also indirectly confirmed by Air Force Commander Anatoly Kornukov. According to him, the toughest measures should be taken to refill ammunition depots and restore supplies of high-precision weapons, such as guided missiles and correctable airbombs.
Federal aviation is mostly using ammunition whose service life has not yet expired, Kornukov told the Agency. However bombs and missiles with expired service life were also used sometimes, and they failed to detonate, he added.
Kornukov said he was concerned about the state of aircraft used against guerrillas, as they badly need new engines, tyres and suspensions. The Military Aviation and Technical University recently designed new suspension which can be operated remotely, but its production has not yet stared due to poor financing.
The federal command is planning to restructure the aviation group in the North Caucasus in the near future, Kornukov said, adding that the Aviation Commandant's Office in Mozdok will again be transformed into an avation base.
Federal aviation has accomplished almost 3,000 missions since the beginning of hostilities in the North Caucaus, the general added.
