MOSCOW, November 4 (AVN) -- The Yaroslavl motor plant has designed a diesel engine for the GAZ-3937 Vodnik off-road vehicle, Major-General Alexander Yeliseyev, spokesman for the Defence Ministry Chief Armoured Vehicle Department, said on Thursday.
The engine can be used in both civil and military vehicles, Yeliseyev told the Military News Agency.
According to him, serial production of GAZ-3937 will soon begin at the Arzamas engineering plant. The vehicle has a welded hull which consists of two plug-in modules. The front module comprises the engine and the control departments which are divided by a hermetic partition. The rear module is intended for transportation of people and cargo, as well as mounting of weapons and special equipment.
The vehicle's maximum speed is 140 km per hour, and its overwater speed makes five km per hour, Yeliseyev said. It can be used in mountains and cross passes up to 4,650 kilometres above the sea level. Vodnik is expected to complete state tests early next year, he added.
