TIRASPOL, November 15 (AVN) -- Commander of Russian military contingent in the self-proclaimed Near-Dniestr Republic Valery Yevnevich on Monday accused Moldavia of thwarting the withdrawal of Russian troops from this volatile region.
Even though Moldavia constantly insists on speeding up the withdrawal, it fails to provide necessary means of trasportation to effect it, Yevnevich told the Military News Agency. According to him, cars and platforms for the transportation of arms and troops have to be brought all the way from Russia which extends the terms of withdrawal and increases its costs.
Russian troops are ready to take away and utilise all property, military equipmenmt and ammunition of former Army 14 in accordance with the adapted treaty on conventional armed forces in Europe, Yevnevich said. Under the OSCE decision, the Russian party presented the schedule of withdrawal and began loading the first three echelons.
However at least several thousand of carriages are necessary to take away all ammunition. If Russia obeys to the international norms of security in arms transportation, the process will take another five to six years, he stressed.
