MOSCOW, November 22 (AVN) - Chechen guerrillas are planning to effect a so-called "federal defeat scheme" if federal troops attempt at entering Grozny, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters said on Monday.
According to him, rebels have mined many objects in the Chechen capital, including industrial factories and plants and the city's oil and gas system. They have set up an enormous "oil trap" in Grozny's Oktyabrsky district, where 30 working oil wells are linked together by channels. When federals approach Grozny, the channels will be opened, and if the storm begins, the entire system will be set afire.
If this plan is implemented, Chechnya and the entire North Caucasian region are likely to face an environmental disaster, the spokesman told the Military News Agency.
He went on to say that federal reconnaissance parties had determined components of the liquid that guerrillas are burying in barrels near remotely controlled landmines. The liquid consists of natural gas, filled with heavy elements and V-agents. If it is detonated, a toxic mixture will be formed which will cover a large territory around the site of the explosion.
