MURMANSK, November 24 (AVN) - the Imandra technical support ship that belongs to Murmansk sea steamship company is to unload used nuclear fuel wastes from a Northern fleet submarine at the Nerpa ship-repairing plant.
This is the first time the civil ship has been involved in the operation. By now movable Navy re-load technical bases accomplish this task, but they cannot fully satisfy Navy's needs.
The Imandra base is presupposed to unload Murmansk nuclear ships and keep nuclear fuel.
The ship is on service since 1981. Shi is 130 meter's length, 16 meters wide and of 9500 ton displacement and is able to keep 545 cube meters of liquid nuclear wastes.
