PUTIN TO LEAVE FOR URALS THURSDAY

MOSCOW, November 26 (AVN) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is planning to leave for the city of Orenburg in the southern Ural mountains on Thursday, competent sources in the Russian government staff told the Military News Agency.

Putin will visit the Strela missile production plant, one of the largest Russian defence industry enterprises. It also produces light helicopters for the Emergency Ministry under the auspices of several conversion programmes. Nevertheless, its capacities are not used to the full extent.

That is why Putin and Strela's top officials are expected to discuss a purpose-oriented programme of state support to the plant, the sources said.

After that, Putin was planning to head for Magnitogorsk, but his plans are likely to change due to President Boris Yeltsin's illness.
