MOSCOW, November 26 (AVN) - Troops of the Russian Interior Ministry have held 113 special operations in the North Caucasus since the beginning of the anti-guerrilla operation, a source in the main staff of the Interior Ministry troops said on Friday.
In the course of these operations, the troops eliminated 11 guerrilla strong-points, 26 long-term fire emplacements, 27 command and observer posts, 27 ammunition depots and over 50 units of military equipment, the source told the Military News Agency.
Experience gained during these operations proved that elite units are the most effective in anti-guerrilla warfare, the source said. At present, all minor elite units are combined into separate military units which have become the main force in actions against mobile separatist gangs.
At the same time, the Chechnya war exposed certain shortcomings in personnel training. Thus, units successful in flatland operations are losing their activity in the mountains.
