MOSCOW, November 29 (AVN) - The Russian State Property Ministry managed to sell only 10 percent of military property it has put up for auctions this year, a ministry source told the Military News Agency on Monday.
A total of 2,088 military objects costing as much as 1,271 billion roubles (about 48 billion U.S. dollars) has been put up for actions, the spokesman said. However only 234 objects costing 170.3 million roubles (about 6.4 million dollars) have been effectively sold.
The State Property Ministry believes it could have sold much more if the Defence Ministry had taken time to put its property in order. As to closed military cantonments, they are not likely to be sold at all, the source said. They are located too far from inhabited localities and do not have ground environment which could be attractive for investors, he added.
