MOSCOW, December 3 (AVN) - the Whirlwind - antiterror operation prevented a lot of crimes with explosive powder and weapon, general Alexander Zdanovich, Federal Security Service assistance department chief said at the Russian information centre.
Since January 1999 Police and Security service officers have subducted 400 units of fire-arm, over 800 hand-made explosive units, seven ton explosive powder and 70 kilogram of poisons.
Civilians help the authorities by so-called trust phone line, Zdanovich emphasised.
Anti-terrorist department officers have recently arrested several men suspected in preparing another terrorist act in Moscow. They are not unlikely to belong to Khattab and Basayev's group, the general hinted.
Ideological basis of the organisation is vakhabism; members of the group had ideological, military and mine-explosive training.
Several detachments of the group were sent to diffedernt regions of Russia for terrorist work, Zdanovich stated.
In accordance with the Federal Security Service data people of different nationalities including Slavonic ones participate in the group.
