BALTIC FLEET GROUND AND COASTAL TROOPS COMMANDER TAKES OFFICE

KALININGRAD, December 6 (AVN) - Major-General Vladimir Bakin, recently appointed commander of ground and coastal troops of the Russian Baltic fleet, entered upon his duties on Monday, the Military News Agency learned.

Bakin was born in the Far Eastern Amur region in 1953. His parents were employees. He graduated from the Far Eastern Higher Combined Arms Command College in 1975 and from the Funze Military Academy in 1986.

After that, he occupied various posts in the Near Carpathian and the Trans-Baikal military districts, which ranged from platoon commander to division commander. Having graduated form the General Staff Academy in 1995, he started serving in Kaliningrad.

Prior to his current appointment, Bakin had been chief-of-staff of the Baltic Fleet ground and coastal troops for two years.
