AFGHAN TALIBES READY TO WELCOME CHECHEN GOVT

MOZDOK, December 7 (AVN) - Leaders of Afghanistan's Taliban extremist movement have officially informed Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov that they are ready to grant asylum to the Chechen government, a source in the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency on Tuesday.

If such development takes place, prominent warlord Khattab of Jordanian origin will be placed in charge of the Grozny defence, the source said, citing military intelligence data.

He went on to say that 150 mercenaries aged 15 to 40 had recently arrived in Chechnya from the North Caucasian autonomous republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. Under the contract, their monthly salary makes 1,500 to 2,000 U.S. dollars a month, not including 100-percent monthly bonuses, the source stressed.
