YELTSIN APPONTS CHIEF-OF-STAFF OF NAVAL AVIATION

MOSCOW, December 7 (AVN) - President Boris Yeltsin on Tuesday appointed Major-General Valery Avdonin chief-of-staff and first deputy commander of the Russian naval aviation.

Avdonin was born in the village of Sokol in the Far Eastern Sakhalin region on February 1, 1948. He graduated from the Chetnigov Higher Air Force Pilot College in 1970, the Gagarin Air Force Academy in 1977 and the General Staff Academy in 1993.

From 1998 to 1999, Avdonin was deputy aviation commander of the Far Eastern military district and also deputy head of the aviation department in the headquarters of the Air Force and Air Defence army stationed in this district.
