MOSCOW, December 8 (AVN) - The military doctrine drafted by the Russian General Staff and submitted for public discussion in late October is ready for discussion in the presidential Security Council, a General Staff spokesman said on Wednesday.
The variant to be discussed by the council is different from the original in part dealing with use of nuclear weapons, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. In the original, the part was three pages long. The current variant contains, however, only a paragraph on this issue, saying that Russia possesses nuclear weapons and can use them in the interests of state security when a military threat is obvious.
Experts of the General Staff Academy believe that the corrections will not save the variant from tough criticism in the Security Council. The document does not state the kind of war should Russia get ready for and is vague on tasks and missions of the Armed Forces in the next 10 to 15 years.
Besides, a Security Council spokesman made it clear that this body is not likely to discuss the draft military doctrine, as well as other issues related to the army development, this month.
