ARKHANGELSK, December 24 (AVN) - Nenaks missile testing ground (Arkhangelsk region, North of Russia) will soon receive new test-benches for sea-based cruise missiles, the Military News Agency learned in the regional administration.
Experts think it is connected with the widening works on cruise missiles and first of all with the Granet complex modernisation. The complex is presupposed for the Severodvinst multipurpose nuclear submarine of 885 (Yasen) project.
The submarine is designed at Malakhit sea machine-building bureau in St. Petersburg and is built in Severodviksk nuclear submarine building centre. It was floated off in 1998.
In 2000 the submarine must enter the Navy but the works on Granet modernisation are long-drawn, so Nenaks testing ground is being modernised to intensify the works.
First Russian cruise missiles such as Termit, P-6, P-15, P-15M and others were tested at Nenaks testing ground.
Recently the number of tests is diminished due to lack of financing.
