RUSSIAN NAVY STAFF READY FOR Y2K, COMMANDER TO MEET 2000 IN HIS OFFICE

MOSCOW, December 31 (AVN) - The Russian Navy Staff is ready for Y2K, officers of the Navy Central Command Point said on Friday.

All computer systems, including those ensuring combat management and transmission of signals to strategic nuclear undersea cruisers have been checked and are kept under control, the officers told the Military News Agency. Besides, special Y2K trainings were held by the Staff on Thursday.

Overnight to January 1, Russian territorial waters will be patrolled by two nuclear submarines, one of the Northern and the other of the Pacific Fleet. Up to 10 surface ships will be patrolling outer roadsteads and approaches to naval bases. The Navy commander will also meet 2000 in his office.
