MOSCOW, January 25 (AVN) - Latvian Defence Minister Girts Valdis Kristovskis, Lithuanian Defence Minister Ceslovas Stankevicius and Estonian Defence Minister Uri Luik are expected to sign a memorandum on structure, functioning and personnel status of the regional centre for air space watch in Riga on Tuesday.
On Monday the Defence Ministers discussed three-sided co-operation and integration into NATO.
Having discussed the project of the Baltic Watch System, they decided it to become part of the NATO Baltic system of radar air control.
Russian air defence experts think that NATO control on this strategically important region is a threat for Russia's national interests and contradicts previous agreements.
It is not unlikely that Russians may take counter-measures such as additional air-defence and air force detachments in Belarus and Russia (Baltic direction) to prevent NATO expansion to the East.
