DUMA DEFENCE COMMITTEE DEPUTY CHAIRMEN DIVIDE RESPONSIBILITIES

MOSCOW, January 28 (AVN) - The first meeting of the State Duma defence committee approved the committee structure, the Military News Agency learned.

Deputies organised sub-committees on military policy and construction; armed forces and other troops and military detachments training, manning, military and alternative service; armed forces and other troops and military detachments supply and defence industry problems; servicemen social security, public relations and co-operation with defence and sport organisations.

General Andrey Nikolayev, the chairman of the committee, is to have seven deputies; five of those have already been approved by the lower house of Russian Parliament.

Nikolai Bezborodov is responsible for co-operation with the Duma Council and committees and controls fulfilling of the lawmaking programme; Alexander Mikhailov is responsible for co-operation with the Council of the Russian Federation; Mikhail Musatov is the one responsible for co-operation with the government and other executive authorities while Alexander Korzhakov is to co-operate with the President, and Alexey Arbatov is to work in the international branch.

Vladimir Lushin and Valentin Chaika will control sub-committees.

The parliament is to approve Alexander Korzhakov and Alexey Arbatov as committee deputy chairmen on February 9.
