MOSCOW, January 31 (AVN) - The State Duma defence committee has made a plan of its lawmaking work for 2000, a source in the committee administration told the Military News Agency.
Under the plan, seven bills are to be submitted for Duma's consideration this spring. Among them are draft laws "Concerning Military Reform," "Concerning Trade Unions of Servicemen," "Concerning Legal Status and Finance and Economic Activity of Military Organisations" and "Concerning the Order of Settlement, Stay, and Disbandment of Military Formations in the Territory of the Russian Federation."
Another nine bills will be submitted to the Duma additionally. Most of them propose amendments to the federal law "Concerning Military Duty and Military Service." Several others have been awaited by Russian citizens for many years. For example, the draft law "Concerning the Basis of State Rehabilitation of Servicemen who Participated in Hostilities and Other Emergency Situations" has been waiting for approval for three years.
The lawmakers will also have to deal with 12 bills originally drafted by the defence committee of the previous State Duma. The source said the draft law "Concerning Arms Exports" is likely to have top priority, as it is supported by committee chairman General Andrei Nikolayev.
