MOZDOK, January 31 (AVN) -- The main task of the western federal group in the North Caucasus is blocking the rebels in the entrance of the Argun canyon also known as the Wolfs-gate, a spokesman for the unified federal headquarters told the Military News Agency.
According to the source, knowing that after the operation in Grozny is finished the federals will unite their forces and any resistance will be impossible, Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov has announced the area between the Duba-Yurt and Lakha-Varanda localities "the main front of the mountain war."
In the past two weeks federal troops have eliminated at least 400 guerrillas in the area. They are opposed here by the gang under command of Emir Rizvan Chegirov, the right hand of Chechen Wahhabi leader Abdul-Malik.
Several other non-Wahhabi warlords have recently tried to retreat from the Wolfs-gate, but have been mercilessly executed by Khattab, Jordanian mercenary warlord. A couple of weeks earlier the Black Arab, nicknamed so by the rebels, publicly shot four leaders of small guerrilla gangs and chained the rest in fear.
