MAKHACHKALA, February 1 (AVN) - Chechen rebel warlords have agreed on zones of responsibility for the forthcoming guerrilla warfare in the liberated districts of the republic, a spokesman for the eastern federal headquarters said on Tuesday.
Jordanian mercenary Khattab will set up armed anti-federal revolts near Gudermes, Chechnya's second largest city, already in the near future, the spokesman told the Military News Agency. His fellow warlord Salman Raduyev will be responsible for resistance in the Novogroznensky village, he said.
In order to prevent possible mounting of rebel activity, federal riot police and SWAT teams, together with army units, performed another ID check in Gudermes. They detained 16 people who had not declared their involvement in militant gangs, but had obvious signs of such involvement.
The operative situation in eastern Chechnya has not changed considerably since Monday, the spokesman said. The federals are regrouping and fortifying their positions at possible directions of rebel breakthrough, he concluded.
