KHANKALA, February 1 (AVN) - Federal troops continue combing blocks adjacent to the strategic Minutka Square in downtown Grozny, the Military News Agency learned in the Interior Ministry operative group.
Before retreating, guerrillas left bombs and mines in many houses, a group spokesman said. Six landmines were exposed in one of the basements, and five more in another, he stressed.
On Tuesday, federal field engineers rendered harmless four anti-personnel mines and some 10 grenades. Interior Ministry troops and police arrested eight suspected rebels.
