ULYANOVSK, February 1 (AVN) - Airborne Troops Commander Georgy Shpak arrived in the central Russian city of Ulyanovsk on Tuesday to present new commander of Airborne Brigade 31 to his subordinates.
The new commander, Colonel Sergei Kapustin, was born in 1956. He graduated from the Kaliningrad Suvorov college and the Ryazan airborne college. Kapustin commanded a separate intelligence company, an airborne regiment, and then served as chief of staff of Novorossiysk Airborne Division 7. He also served in Afghanistan.
As to the previous brigade commander, Major-General Vadim Orlov, he had to leave the post due to his election deputy of the State Duma lower house of parliament. Orlov said his vales to the brigade on Tuesday.
In the next four years, Orlov "will be at bidding of the defence minister," Shpak said.
