OVER 1,000 FLATS TO BE BUILT FOR SERVICEMEN IN RUSSIAN FAR EAST

KHABAROVSK, February 1 (AVN) - Far Eastern military district officers have received flats in the newly built 150-apartment block in Khabarovsk on Tuesday, Lieutenant-General Yuri Yusupov, deputy district commander, told the Military News Agency.

Another 150-apartment block was given to the officers' families in January. According to Yusupov, who is supervising construction and lodging in the district, this year they plan to build over 1,000 new flats for the servicemen.

New blocks in the Ussuriysk and Blagoveshchensk garrisons will be turn-keyed in a couple of days, the general added.

However these measures seem to be not enough for solving the housing problem in the Far Eastern military district. According to the data as of the end of 1999, 4,500 families of the district's servicemen did not have flats.
