RUSSIA MAY HAVE NEW NUCLEAR ICE-BREAKER IN 3 YEARS

ST.PETERSBURG, February 2 (AVN) - The Baltiysky shipyard is intensifying the construction of the 50 Let Pobedi nuclear ice-breaker, Oleg Shyluakovsky, the general director of the enterprise, told the Military News Agency.

Russian government decided to direct 100 million roubles (over three million U.S. dollars) a year to finish the works.

The nuclear ice-breaker under the name of Ural was started back in 1989 and seven years late it was given its present name 50 Let Pobedy.

The capacity of the vessel is 75,000h/p.

It is the sixth nuclear ice-breaker the Baltiysky shipyard is building since 1975.

At present it is 70 percent ready.

Receiving 700 to 750 million roubles (23 to 25 million U.S. dollars) a year the plant can finish the vessel in three years. The administration of the enterprise hopes to receive the deficient amount of money on a credit against the governmental guarantees.

It is not unlikely that St. Petersburg and Murmansk regional administrations could also become sureties for the credit.
