ZUGDIDI, Georgia, February 2 (AVN) -- About 200 armed Abkhazians gathered near the Inguri bridge connecting the Gall and Zugdidi districts of the republic, Avtandil Todua, head of the Zugdidi Interior office told the Military News Agency.
The men demand that Georgian authorities free two Abkhazian customs officers, who were detained on January 26, near the Rukhi village in the zone of responsibility of the 301st post of joint peacekeeping forces, which include Russian servicemen. As a result of a shooting session three other participants of the incident were killed.
A large group of armed people has gathered on the Georgian side of the Inguri as well, demanding the liberation of nine hostages taken by the Abkhazians.
According to the Georgian State Security Ministry detachments of the Abkhazian army are ready to invade into the Zugdidi district, Todua said. According to him, currently there are no regular detachments of Georgian army in the district, which means Russian peacekeepers will have to resist the invasion. It is the CIS peacekeeping forces, who are to prevent the repeating of bloodshed in this district, he stressed.
