MAKHACHKALA, February 7 (AVN) - Fierce quarrels have started to emerge among close associates of Chechen President Aslan Maskhadov after the rebel forces were defeated in Grozny, a source in a Dagestani government agency said on Monday.
On Saturday, a separatist armed with a machine-gun opened fire at a group of people surrounding Maskhadov, the source told the Military News Agency, citing operative information. The President's life was saved by a woman militant who returned fire. The woman is supposed to be a nurse, but confidential sources claim she is a Kosovo Albanian planted about Maskhadov by Western secret services.
According to intelligence data, the quarrel broke out after Maskhadov refused to divide the money Chechen rebels are keeping on foreign bank accounts into personal shares.
