MOSCOW, February 7 (AVN) -- A Russian delegation of defence specialists arrived to Delhi on Monday to discuss modernisation of Pechora (S-125 Russian classification) air-defence launchers used by the Indian Armed Forces.
The modernisation of Pechora into Pechora-2 will cost the customer three times less the price of new launchers, Alexander Lemansky, the Almaz plant designer general told the Military News Agency before his departure to India.
According to Lemansky the modernisation programme presupposes installation of up-to-date digital equipment instead of the previous analogue systems. The missiles are also to be modernised, he added. They will be fitted with new engines and combat parts.
Specialists say Pechora-2 is compliant with the standards of third generation systems.
For instance, if the previous version of Pechora could locate stealth technology aircraft at 10-16km, then Pechora-2 increases the distance to 30km.
If the negotiations in Delhi are successful, then already in the beginning of summer Indian specialists will arrive in Russia to study the capabilities of the modernised launcher.
