TULA MLRS-MAKING PLANT DEMANDS IMMEDIATE PAYMENTS FROM GOVT

TULA, Central Russia, February 7 (AVN) -- Nikolay Makarovets, general director of the state Splav enterprise has addressed the Russian government demanding immediate payment of state defence order for 1999.

Last year the enterprise managed to increase the production of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) by 300 percent, Makarovets told the Military News Agency. The chief rocket and artillery department of the Defence Ministry promised to pay for the received equipment in the end of 1999. However the due RUR500m (USD17m) have not yet been allocated to the enterprise's accounts.

As a result of this Splav and several other companies involved in production of MLRS started the year without money.
