VLADIKAVKAZ, February 8 (AVN) -- Despite the defeat in Grozny and the loss of several warlords the rebels do not look demoralised, a spokesman for the 58th combined army staff told the Military News Agency.
Moreover, the spokesman added, they are mounting their resistance in the Vladikavkaz, Nazran, and Mozdok zones of responsibility of the federal forces. The guerrillas continue attacks from the south, to help the gangs, which managed to break away from Grozny, enter the mountainous districts.
Reconnaissance and sabotage rebel groups are intensifying their activities in Chechnya's liberated districts. Law enforcement bodies of the adjacent republics of North Ossetia and Ingushetia, and the Interior Ministry troops in Chechnya are working on a tight schedule.
Sources in the 58th combined army staff say guerrillas are regrouping in the mountainous districts of the breakaway republic, they receive reinforcements, food, and medicines.
